StillWading Will do my best to make a worthy contribution here as my brain is still in post Dick's haze due to averaging less than three hours of sleep starting with a failed attempt to rest prior to hitting the road Tuesday morning for Saint Louis. See, we're heading into run-on territory already. Now about this juicy segment of music I keep going back to. For one, it includes the first Tweezer I experienced at a venue since the 90s so having the pieces fall together at one of the quaintest gigs since when? Europe 97 felt like a time capsule. Mike has always been tremendous but one of the first differences I noticed in comparing earlier with present shows is that the bass lines of present sound more emphasized. This Tweezer is a potpourri of Phish's evolutionary peaks including funky bass bombs that transition briefly into darker territory. Perhaps there was too much energy contained in the room to remain in space for longer than a couple of minutes so they attempted work some of that out by segueing seamlessly into Twist. I'm relatively new to the intricacies of this song so I'll just add that it felt great as we moved out of preceding song. Then, we were treated to one of the most beautiful rip chords I've ever experienced with this band. It truly felt like that one time I jumped out of an airplane. For those of you who haven't, the air is hitting your face with such force that it completely deforms us. Breathing is super challenging without making a focused effort, kind of like running sprints. After nearly a minute of free fall, the chord is pulled and time stops or so it may be perceived. All of a sudden, we're wading in a velvet sea. (will reblog on Tumblr here) #Phish
